Its name comes from the fact that the old road is part of the Roman road Ermin Way. The access for northbound traffic is quite complicated, as the garage is located on the old road.
An old Little Chef
here is now a car sales shop and Olive's Family Restaurant. However, by June 2014, the restaurant had closed and was turned into the A417 Diner with branding almost identical to Little Chef, and it has since re-branded again. The forecourt was branded Texaco

The services were built following a Highways Agency study which highlighted the lack of services along this fast-improving route. The services were supposed to be built in conjunction with a site at M5 J11a but that plan was rejected.

The southbound side previously had a Gulf
filling station operated by Bayford Group, which is now derelict. The northbound side was taken over by Euro Garages in late 2015 and formerly included 'On the Run' branding and a Costa Coffee unit.
