Brampton Hut services spawned from a piece of land which was identified as a development zone. Like most A-road service areas, it does not have a single amenity building, but rather a range of individual restaurants which keep springing up and mostly operate in isolation from each other.

Strictly speaking, the forecourt is the main service area facility, and everything else is an additional option.

Despite this, Brampton Hut does have some history: it was built on the site of the former Brampton Hotel which served the A1 and A604. It was built to mark the opening of the new A14, and then watched as the A14 moved again 30 years later. Anticipating increased traffic, a new retail park-style building opened in 2017, but the majority of its units are still empty.

The UK's first Wendy's Drive Thru restaurant opened here on 23 January 2023; the first time that brand has appeared at a roadside service area in over 20 years. It is operated by Blank Table Ltd, and is part of a concerted effort from Wendy's to open new sites across the UK.

GRIDSERVE are seeking to build ten electric vehicle charging points next to the Starbucks.
