This is the unbuilt Granada service area on the M4. For the service station on the A4, see Services on the A4.
As part of a general look at services in the Berkshire/Buckinghamshire area, two applications were made to build services at M4 J8/9. The first is from an unknown developer and would have been located in the north-east quadrant of the junction, however the application states that it would only be accessible to eastbound traffic (possibly to go with one of the plans at Great Wood).
The second application was from Granada and would have seen a full service station built on the southern side of the junction. A variation of this would have only allowed entrance from the M4 westbound.
Instead, the only service area that was given permission after all of this was Cobham on the M25.
