RoadChef's attempt to rival the popular Stafford (North) services, this one comes complete with its own lake and rural surroundings. However, no matter what you think of it, it is still overshadowed by its friend on the other side of the road.

Trivia

The services were built by Blue Boar but opened by RoadChef, as they were sold whilst the services were under construction. They used to have an SOS Fashion Outlet here but it has since closed.

Granada originally proposed a southbound service area opposite the northbound one, but for some reason it didn't go ahead. To really confuse matters, according to Stafford Borough Council the services are called "Granada Service Station Southbound", and the postcode supplied by RoadChef is wrong and actually points to the northbound services. Very odd!

The services are deliberately set back from the road by 67 metres to allow for future widening of the M6.

Survey Results

In 2006, the services were given a 4/5 by Holiday Which?

Having travelled back home from Scotland on 2nd August and being advised by Motorway signs to take a break if tired. I decided to do this and greatly reduce the risk of an accident. To my cost I have experienced the uncaring and parasitical behaviour and attitude of Roadchef, Motorway Service Suppliers. Rather than being champions of help, assistance and support to travellers, they are modern day highway robbers. If perhaps a very small amount of common sense had been applied in carefully observing the entry and exit time as well as the vast amount of open and available spaces that there were. I think that it is clear enough to ascertain and deduce that any intent to offend abuse or wilfully take advantage of parking at the service station other than to rest and take heed of Highways Agency advice to stop if tired was my intention. Unfortunately someone at Roadchef is not content with fleecing so called customers with their exorbitant prices for food and fuel etc, they want to hammer them in as many ways as possible to line their pockets.

What with the current state of the economy along with the share of business and profits that some organisations are suffering, even to the point of ceasing to trade and having to shed staff by way of redundancies. I sincerely hope that Roadchef themselves are serious victims of this economic recession. I will never ever purchase products or services or part with any monies at Roadchef from this day forward and will do everything possible to persuade as many others to do the same, apart from as frequently as possible regularly depositing my waste bodily products which is all I think they are worthy of.
