Taverna is the name Esso used when they started running motorway services in 1970 and wasted no time building several new sites. By 1973 they had found that they couldn't keep up with demand whilst sticking to the Government's restrictions, so they sold all their services to Granada.
Esso still have a large number of petrol forecourts across the motorway network.
