Commonly known as the Co-Op the Co-Operative Food is a subsidiary of the Co-Operative Group. The Co-Operative Food is a large chain of small supermarkets and convenience stores some of which are based at service areas.
In March 2009 the Co-Operative Group took over the Somerfield chain in order to merge with the Co-Operative Food brand. At the time it was stated that all Somerfield's over a period of time would be re-branded as 'The Co-Operative Food'.
All stores now include a Costa Express machine.
