Trivia:
When the services first opened they were signed as 'Blackburn services', but the site was actually slightly over the border in to Darwen and as a result it became very controversial to the point where people were regularly climbing on to the motorway to attack the signs for the services. After several lengthy meetings they were renamed 'Blackburn with Darwen' in 2005. When the services were proposed, the name 'Blackburn Interchange' was used, presumably because they were intended to act as an economy-stimulating gateway to the town.

The advance signs have been changed to read "Extra | McDonalds" as of last week (late Jan 2008). Seems Extra no longer wish to hide themselves away from this site now!
