Trivia:

Cardiff Gate was many of the smaller services built by Granada and then sold off during the 'big shrink', in a similar fashion to many of the ones along roads like the A34.

In July 2007 Welcome Break bought the site for £650,000 and over a few months they brought in their facilities. The move was presumably to rival Moto's nearby Cardiff West, and it added another 60 staff to the 4,000 already working in the area.

The services have 180 car parking spaces including 15 disabled spaces, 35 HGV spaces and 5 caravan spaces.

The services featured in the 2008 Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special, where at the start of the services (and in the promotional) Gavin is taking a phone call in the car park. Later in the episode, Nessa, Dave, Bryn and baby Neil are in the services' game arcade. On Christmas Day a follow-up behind-the-scenes show featured more of the cast and crew in the services. It looked like the services formed the base for the filming of the entire episode.

Was the petrol station not open?

Beware. This is not a real 24hour service station. I had to leave and be locked out at 9.30pm on a ice cold December night when I was waiting for recovery.

I visited this one for the first time last week. I have driven past so often an not known it was there(Junc 30, M4) as all the motorway signs are down whilst the road is being widened, But was glad I did stop. Fab quite services. ^.^
