The eastbound services are slightly larger and they have the last of a few of the shops. Each site comes with a fair amount of open space behind the hotel, but they have been slated because of the tight corners on the exit sliproads and the poor car park layout.

Trivia:
Reading is located not too far from Chieveley, so much so that when it opened the signs for Chieveley were removed as there were fears that the junction wouldn't cope. Chieveley's junction has since been improved and the signs have gone back up.
It is thought that the services are built on an old landfill site(!)
A Fonebitz store will open here soon.

Also in 2006, the services were rated at 3/5 by Holiday Which?

Do not go to the loo here unless you are happy for cross sex observation and indecent exposure. Cleaners are subcontracted so regular staff have no control over their practices which include male operatives wandering in and out of what is supposed to be the ladies toilets without any warning and female cleaners walking in while men are using urinals! Cleaners did not understand or speak english either so cannot ask them to go out even though there is no legal entitlement for them to be in opposite sex areas when in use and this is an infringement of human rights. Fine if you are into that sort of thing but very embarrassing and uncomfortable if you are not. The Law allows the employment of appropriate sex cleaners in situations where people are using toilet and washing facilities (positive discrimination) for obvious reasons so why are they exploiting foreign workers and subjecting both the cleaners and the users of their busy facilities to undignified and potentially compromising situations? Imagine being a woman or a minor finding herself alone with a strange man when exiting a cubicle in what is supposed to be the Ladies toilet enclosure. This is just penny pinching madness which shows a lack of respect for their staff and their clients!

Don't bother eating here. Go to the Marks and Sparks concession and buy some sandwiches/snacks there instead. It's slightly more expensive than a high street M&S, but you'll get much more for your money than in the service's 'restaurants' and, more importantly, it will be edible!
