Trowell has a history of being slated but Moto have tried their hardest to brighten it up a bit. The northbound and southbound sites are very different, with northbound having recently had an extension. The car park is very small and finding spaces can sometimes be difficult, and the hotel is only on the northbound side so southbound traffic has to park up and use the bridge.

Trowell featured briefly in the TV show 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet'.
Survey results:
In 2006, Holiday Which? gave Trowell a rock-bottom 1/5 in their survey. It didn't come last though, Cullompton on the M5 did.
Also in 2006 the services won a five-star loo award.
