Trivia:

Winchester's location has been slated because not only is it quite a way from the city of Winchester, but it's located between where a substantial amount of traffic leaves for the A303 at J8 and a substantial amount of traffic joins from the A34 at J9.

Uniquely, the services only have one secret exit: in other words, authorised traffic can access the southbound services via Chillandham Lane, whereas northbound visitors have to use the M3.

This service area was planned by Swayfields (the owners of Extra), but it was ready before Swayfields had finished putting Extra together, so they sold the site to RoadChef with Swayfields retaining ownership of the petrol station. The latest news is that the services are being sold to Moto.

In June 2007 staff at the services were threatening to strike after RoadChef said they would withdraw their coach service from Southampton and Winchester provided specifically for staff at the services who couldn't/didn't want to drive. I'm not sure what the outcome was.

It was referred to on Fareham's Wave 105, where it was described as "the one with the funky toilets".
