Complete with a wide variety of fast food (with different facilities on each side, the two buildings are connected by a rather nasty bridge), Woodall is quite a large service station with many facilities, located on the outskirts of Sheffield. It's quite old but it has since been brightened up by Welcome Break.

The nasty bridge

The bridge between the two is old and falling apart in places.

Inside the bridge

Inside the bridge, and you can see just how dirty it is. It leaks rainwater and in true horror movie style, there is a slamming door behind you.

The front of the services

In the 60s Forte celebrated Britain's new-found love of motorways and service stations by, along with the other operators, selling postcards to advertise them. This one shows the front of Woodall northbound and, on the face of it, things haven't changed at all!

Trivia:

The southbound side was refurbished quite extensively, but the northbound side wasn't and it's a lot smaller. The bridge is very much something temporary made permanent, and before the refurbishment it used to connect directly to the southbound services, like it does to the northbound side. This is now no longer the case and after using the bridge you have to wind round to the main entrance.

Survey results:

In 2007, Woodall won a five star loo award. The petrol forecourt won four stars.

In 2006, the southbound petrol station won a five star loo award and the main building won four stars. The northbound site wasn't rated.

Also in 2006, Holiday Which? rated the services at 3/5.

Very good services. The Hotel is a great stay and fantasic value to hit the peaks and sheffield.

Only McDonnalds on the M1 so worth a stop for a Big Mac!

Has two WHSmiths now

*NOTE* - THE NORTHBOUND DOES BETTER DEALS THAN THE SOUTH *lol*

The bridge is a temporary design but will permanently be there. It's due to the high winds in the area.

My latest thoughts are that the northbound site is tidier, but still cramped. Southbound is great.

The site has been refurbished recently, and it is a lot better. It did used to be horrible, but that's why the list of comments (if you view them from the Services List) goes newest first.

Its hardly cramped to be fair, its infact bigger than most msa's plus havbing two sides gives you plenty of room if you want it! The bridge has been repaired i believe but still a little creepy! The North and South have both had a hell of a lot of work done on them and look great.....one of the best sites around!!!!
