About Motorway Services Online
MSO Home - Site Info - About Motorway Services Online
For nearly five years now Motorway Services Online (or MSO if you're feeling lazy) has been the largest, the leading and the most updated site dedicated to motorway services in the UK. Given that the quality and cleanliness of a service station can differ largely depending on the one you choose, this site aims to assist travellers in many different ways. It is, in effect, an online guide to motorway services, and what makes it so reliable is that we're more than happy for you, the reader, to stick your oar in if you have some news or reviews.
Why was Motorway Services Online set up?
Despite the operators claiming that they're trying their hardest, most travellers have little or no confidence in service stations, yet these buildings are extremely important to anyone who spends a fair amount of time on the roads.
When the site was first set up it was little more than a blog about service stations - my experiences with good ones, bad ones, and so on. The site has expanded much more since then, to the point where it has started to look beyond motorway services and to look at a-roads, operators and individual brands.
Many visitors believe that the only way forward from this 'motorway monotony' is to boycott the ones we don't like and to get everyone else to do the same: this could be by writing a review, giving it a bad rating or by generally being negative about them at every opportunity.
Who uses Motorway Services Online?
As well as helping travellers to plan their breaks, this site has been used by researchers looking for history or news, and by people who are just interested and have some time to waste.
It has also helped with university projects, and excerpts and links to the site have been shared amongst truck and coach driver organisations, as well as several international parties looking to compare different country's service stations.
Who runs the site; who do I contact?

This site is held together by a few thin strings created by a slothful and slightly unusual student called Johnny.
My four main interests are photography, computers, travelling and UK Geography, and these all combine to create a sort of franken-hobby which involves me standing on motorway bridges with a camera, and then sharing my findings with other people like me on the internet. More information about me will be added soon, but trust me, it won't be worth the wait!
Should you want to contact me, whether you've got some information to add to the site or you've got a media enquiry, do drop me a line and I'll try to get back to you within a few days.
And to everyone who has shaped this site...
I would like to thank everyone who has done something for this site, whether you've been a regular on the Forums even when we've gone for weeks without any postings, or you've been working for a helpdesk and you've had to deal with my many cries for help. Perhaps you're one of those people whom the rate and review system relies upon for it to remain up-to-date, or maybe you just send me some extra information every now and again. You lot know who you are and without you the site wouldn't be anything like it is today. I hope that all individual contributors have been credited on the page that they have helped with, and if not then their name or business can be found on this slightly more generic list.
Even if you're just a casual reader, I'd like to thank you for using the site and for inspiring me every day to grow and to continue with it.
OK then, so where's that disclaimer?
Starting with the copyright, take a deep breath, here we go:
