You would have to do quite some searching to find any evidence of this service area, largely because there are no 'sliproads to nowhere'. This is because in 1985 the motorway was widened to three lanes, so any such evidence would have been destroyed.

However the land here is clearly shaped with a service area in mind, and the roads are quite suspicious too. Trench Lane seems to head straight for the service area, and on the other side of the motorway Tagwell Road seems to dive out of the way, and it even has access on to the field where the services should be. It could just be that this is where Trench Lane met Tagwell Road before the motorway was built, but even so, there is something very incredulous about it.
