It's hard to imagine these services today, because only half a mile to the east is J23a with Magor services. However, Magor was only built recently when the M4 was diverted away from Aust services, which are eleven miles from here.

Wilcrick has three 'sliproads to nowhere', with the highway boundary (the fencing around the motorway) leaving space for a westbound offslip. The eastbound sliproads were disconnected from the motorway when the road was widened, and have since deteriorated. The eastbound onslip isn't looking to good, either.

The services would have been quite small, and they would have been the last service area on this section of the M4.
