Detling Hill Service Station
Trivia and History
The restaurant here was built before the A249 became a dual carriageway. After the road was upgraded, it became part of a pair of garages known as the Highland Garages (a name which is still used by Shell today to describe the south-westbound petrol station).
The original building became a Happy Eater, which in 1996 became the Detling branch of Little Chef. It closed in 2011 and became Mickey's Rock Diner. A counterpart, westbound Happy Eater was built at Stockbury.
A road maintenance depot is accessed through the eastbound services.
