Trivia and History
What's now the north-westbound services was originally a nursery. It became a pair of garages in the 1960s.
The service area we see hear today was developed in the early 1980s. The new site opened with an Esso forecourt, known as Dunglass, alongside a Tourist Information Centre and the Dumbarton branch of Little Chef in around 1983, replacing the bypassed Clydebank branch. They were all later joined by a Little Chef Lodge in 1988, which became a Travelodge. In 1998, the Little Chef restaurant gained a Burger King but this closed in 2005. A car dealership is accessed through the services and located next to Little Chef.
The tourist information centre also closed in 2014. The building was later purchased by local restaurant owners in 2016, who opened Masala Twist in the building in 2017.
The forecourt formerly included Esso's Snack & Shop store. The site was acquired by MRH in 2015 who introduced their own-brand Hursts store to the site. MRH was then acquired by MFG in 2018, who rebranded the store to Londis in 2021.
There is an unsigned BP filling station and restaurant opposite on the eastbound side. The eastbound restaurant used to be part of the Crown Carveries pub chain with the pub being known locally as 'The Stonefield'. This closed in 2020 and became part of the Black Rooster Peri Peri chain of restaurants with the new restaurant opening on Thursday 24 September 2020.
