Trivia and History
At the far southern end of the bypass, there are separate plans for a large truckstop to be developed.
Plans for a service station here date back to 1989. Developments were put forward under the names W D Fisher, Twyford Developments and Margram, all on a site named Twyford Farm. In 1998 Margram received planning permission for what they called Twyford service station, and set about selling it to BP and Esso. This development formed one of several which made up Margram's £105m expansion in 2002.
There were separate plans for a restaurant next door. One plan, dated 1996, included a drive thru and a Travelodge. Another firm thought to be interested was Wolverhampton & Dudley (now Marston's). Eventually the Brewers Fayre and Travel Inn opened in around 2002.
New KFC and Costa drive thru units were built on land next to the petrol station, and opened in autumn 2019.
