Services opened 2019

During 2014, plans were unveiled for the A45 here to be realigned to bypass the villages of Upper Heyford, Flore and Weedon Bec. As part of those works, a new roundabout would be created to allow traffic to access Upper Heyford and the waste management centre, close to the M1 at junction 16. The access road to the waste management centre also included an additional access point to some fields which ran alongside the M1. These fields were purchased by Euro Garages in 2017, who proposed to build a forecourt and coffee shop drive-thru on the land.

The new A45 Daventry Development Link Road officially opened on 15 November 2018 with work on the new service area commencing shortly afterwards. An Esso forecourt opened in Spring 2019, with a Starbucks Drive Thru following on 14 June 2019.

Despite Oval not being an M1 motorway service area and not qualifying to be one, the M1's variable message signs were used to warn of disruption at its forecourt during the 2021 fuel crisis. As Oval's name wasn't in the system, it was only called "J16 Services".

The SPAR store was rebranded to ASDA On the Move on 25 April 2023. EG Group also added three electric vehicle chargers to the Starbucks car park in Summer 2023, under their 'EV Point' brand.

The forecourt transferred into the Asda estate in March 2024, relaunching on 18 March with a new Asda Express store.
