Trivia and History
The first part of the service area opened in the early 1990s, before the road to the south was opened. A Little Chef was added in 1995 and in 2001 it became a Little Chef Choices, which saw it gain a Harry Ramsden's, Upper Crust and Caffè Ritazza. Those were later removed, and the restaurant itself closed in 2012. It later re-opened as a McDonald's.
In December 2020, Bridge End Ltd. submitted plans to redevelop the filling station here. The plans include replacing the forecourt canopy and pumps including removal of the current LPG pumps, adding new car and jet washes, adding more car parking spaces and building a new forecourt shop which will include a Subway store. The proposals also include plans for a Costa Drive Thru store which will be situated behind the forecourt and include 6 electric vehicle charging bays. A decision is set to be made in Spring 2021.
