J3-4, 11th April

My visit through the M27 widening works on the 11th April, where the central reservation has been removed. Here's what it looked like:

Heading west along the M27 between the slips at J4, where we are met by a flurry of signs and cones.

The free recovery depot.

Everyone move left!

Four photos in and we haven't actually seen any roadworks.

Ah, here we go. Like the roadworks at Portsmouth, these come with a 50mph SPECs-enforced speed limit.

It looks like a rough ride for those who are in lane one.

That's Rownhams services in the distance, cue sudden lane changing. It'll be even worse when the road is four lanes.

Anyway, you may have noticed that all the works are in the middle right now.

Well, except this bit here, of course. I'm not sure what they're doing there.

Nope, no clues to be seen there. Junction 3 is one mile ahead - everyone move over.

Which everyone promptly does, and lane one suddenly grinds to a halt.

It's a bit of a crawl all the way up really, simply due to too many people moving over at once. That's quite a drill!

Onwards and upwards!

So what are you supposed to do now? Turn around and come the other way, of course! Here we are joining the eastbound carriageway at J3, that sign reads 'SERVICES FULLY OPEN CHECK YOUR FUEL'.

As you may have guessed, this road is very busy and unlike the climbing lanes a new lane here is long overdue.

Approaching the services once more. There's not really much to see, is there?

Diggers!

More diggers, and evidence of vegetation clearance on the left there.

Last call for Rownhams services.

There's still not a lot to see.

Looking in to the distance, it seems that all of the lighting and gantries have been pulled down.

You can now quite clearly see the progress so far.

Approaching the M3 now, but there are actually signs telling motorists to get in lane for the junction before J3.

Why the double signs?

That lorry is actually going the same way as me, it's just that the lines weren't erased very well. You can see the real markings in front of it.

Does that car know which way he's going to go?

Looks like he's coming our way, fair enough. Notice that the M3 is heavy as usual joining the road.

The end.
