26th April

The 26th April was day 99 of the M27 Widening roadworks, and the new barrier is finished and the attention will soon turn to widening the verges. Here's what it looked like:

Joining the roadworks from J11, in the distance you can see a crane parked on the hard shoulder with several others works vehicles, ready to start the next stage of the works.

Previously we would have had to move to the left now so that they could work on the central reservation, but this isn't the case any more. You've still got to do 50 though!

I'm not sure quite what they're doing there, as the road here is already four lanes and hard shoulder wide.

Moving to the right, with the start of the new barrier in the middle.

As with the start of the works, the eastbound carriageway is being re-marked on the Saturday night and westbound on the Sunday night.

The roadworks finish earlier now, because for somewhat obvious reasons the downhill stretch will not be widened.

We're not near J12 yet but we're already up to the national speed limit.

The only gantry within the roadworks, with one of its legs sunk in to the barrier. What a hideous bridge!
