Finally the large empty unit at Winchester Southbound is being put back into use after 4 years as Greggs opens here. It’s situated between WHSmith and West Cornwall Pasty. In 2019, both Costas at Winchester were relocated to kiosks in the seating area, leaving two large empty units. The Northbound Costa was replaced with a Greggs, but this never happened, until now, at Southbound as West Cornwall Pasty was already available. Moto have used Greggs since 2012 & has always been a strong franchise partner of theirs as it’s very accommodating for customers wanting snacks and coffee. Greggs also pride themselves in having cheaper prices, making it more attractive as most other brands at services insist on rapid price inflation. This pic evidences the wooden structure built to conceal the works in addition to a Moto sign explaining works are taking place. We also have Greggs advertisement, outlining it will be open soon, & a BK advertisement. Above the structure, you can see the Greggs logo, clear and large. After me taking this photo, I was given permission to look behind the wooden guard to see what this Greggs looks like before opening (separate pic). Having spoken to a member of staff about both Winchester North & South, apparently there is quite a bit of spare space left at both sides (even with this Greggs opening) suggesting some new KFCs or Prets may be used to fill the gaps, like other Moto’s recently. It’s likely that when this Greggs opens, it will be popular and will take some trade from West Cornwall Pasty and Costa, respectively. It’s difficult to know whether Moto will advertise Greggs much around Winchester Southbound because they don’t have much advertisement for the Northbound Greggs, and the exterior of Winchester South is largely dominated by M&S/WHSmith advertisement. However, customers will need to know about this new unit, so you’d think they would want to advertise it.
