Haydock Park is one of three sites on the M6 where space for a service area was never utilised. The access roads are laid out and today it serves as a police control depot.

It even has the "Secret Exit" and it is almost exactly half way between the existing services. However, if it were to be built then it would be pretty dangerous, as there is an exit half a mile north of the "services" and two miles south of them. Plus, the south-facing sliproads are very sharp, probably because the motorway is climbing at this point.
