Exterior of the colossal, brand new amenity building at Rugby, situated at the very bottom of M6 at J1. It opened just 3 years ago in 2021 and remains looking fresh and highly inviting. Rugby has already won several awards such as Toilets of the Year 2022 platinum and topping both the 2022 and 2023 Transport Focus surveys scoring 100% on each. Today’s pic was taken facing West, a different angle to my last pic here. The new building is arranged in a V-shape, with the entrance to the right. Moto has themed Rugby well with the play on words “Scrum_on_in” and various sculptures imitating Rugby players. Rugby has several water features as well as a large external seating area at the front and back, suited for clement weather. Rugby was where Moto first used their new corporate “smile” logo, which has since been applied to some of their refurbished sites. Moto spent £40 million on investing and opening Rugby, and then opening Rugby kick-started refurbishments to other sites which has improved and changed previous negative views about their sites. Rugby is an outstanding services and Moto have carefully considered the customers and environment surrounding Rugby. Rugby also changed the face of motorway driving in the UK for EV drivers, becoming the largest ultra-rapid charging site on the motorway network. I travel from London to Manchester frequently and Rugby is situated directly in the middle of the two places, making it a convenient stop for me as well as various motorists who make this journey between 2 popular UK cities. Without a doubt Rugby adds a touch of the 2020s to the motorway network. Rugby was moderately busy during this visit. When it first opened and passing customers largely didn’t know if its existence, it was extremely quiet. Within the past few years more and more customers use Rugby and it’s common to find it busy in 2024. Aside from a few road signs on the M1 and M6 not including Rugby as a motorway services as they haven’t been updated, Rugby is fully signposted from the road so customers know when to leave the M6 to visit. Awesome place!
