M&S premium convenience store at Birch Eastbound, situated within the food court section at the back of the interior, towards the footbridge. It’s a very small M&S unit and uses space previously occupied by EDC (Moto’s own dining brand). M&S opened in March 2017, a long while after its WB counterpart. As per usual, M&S and WHSmith battle to get customers from each other and they both have a similar purpose of selling motorists/ travellers car snacks & small essentials, but M&S holding premium status means customers may only use WHSmith if they essentially need to & M&S is more of a quality. M&S already being an expensive store means they can inflate their prices without customers noticing as much, so although it doesn’t seem like the prices make a significant difference, they are likely to be inflated. During my visit, the store was quite quiet, but during the day it’s bound to get manic. M&S is clearly signposted both around the site and from the M62 Eastbound so customers know to expect it when stopping.
