West Cornwall Pasty at Winchester Southbound, situated in the back left-hand corner by the toilets, opposite Full House. Unsure exactly when this would’ve opened, but evidently replaced a phone shop (FoneBitz) as it’s a small unit and typically, phone shops are located in a corner/near toilets. West Cornwall Pasty was launched at Reading in 2011, but Moto never opened that many of them. Moto introduced West Cornwall Pasty to their busier sites, typically in small takeaway kiosks outside the amenity building, to ensure the interior doesn’t overfill. WCP is a continuation of a much older idea at motorway services, whereby customers don’t have to enter the amenity building to eat. However, Winchester South’s West Cornwall Pasty is one of two motorway sites which are located indoors, defeating the point slightly. However, at Winchester South, WCP acts as an addition facility, forming part of a food court including Burger King and a new Greggs when it opens. WCP doesn’t have any seating of its own, so customers are advised to use the communal seating opposite Costa. WCP sells pasties, pastries, hot drinks and snacks. WCP aren’t a facility for a full, sit-down meal, but provide a wide enough range of products. Unfortunately, West Cornwall Pasty has fallen victim of rapid price inflation with extortionate prices compared to Greggs, which does a similar job. WCP have inflated their high street prices as well, so at services, they become extremely costly for customers who will be put off. The unit appears to have not been refurbished recently & likely hasn’t changed at all since opening. Despite being around 11am, West Cornwall Pasty was completely deserted during my visit, with no one, not even a member of staff, in sight. The units positioning within Winchester Southbound doesn’t help its profitability, as customers aren’t likely to notice it next to the toilets, and may be put off by its proximity to the toilets. West Cornwall Pasty is not signposted from the M3 South and isn’t advertised at all around the site.
