Planning and Opening

The A289 Gillingham Northern Relief Road opened in 1999, spawning industrial development around Beechings Way, including a service area by the roundabout.

Petromar proposed a Somerfield filling station here, whilst McDonald's looked at adding a drive-thru restaurant. Both facilities opened in 2000, with fuel initially being provided by Esso and Somerfield operating the sales building, but the whole site was later branded as Somerfield in 2006.

Recent Developments

Following the acquisition of Somerfield by The Co-operative Group in 2009, the forecourt shop rebranded to Co-op Food. Co-op Group partnered with Texaco in 2011, which saw the site change to their brand, retaining the Co-op Food store. It rebranded back to Co-op Petrol in late 2016.

Following Asda's acquisition of the Co-op Petrol estate in August 2023, the filling station was rebranded to Asda Express on 27 October 2023.
