Trivia and History

Plans for a service area at this location date back to 1986 where outline planning permission was granted for a trunk road service area with a petrol station and restaurant. Several plans were drawn up by BP throughout the late 1980s which for a time included a restaurant, motel and business facilities to all be built alongside the filling station. In 1990, BP settled for just a filling station and this was built and opened in around 1991.

Granada were later granted permission to build a restaurant and hotel here in 1999 (likely to have been a Little Chef and Travelodge) next to the filling station but this didn't happen.

BP redeveloped the site in 2001 and the site became a BP Connect site and gained a Wild Bean Café. The site later gained a M&S Simply Food store in 2007.

2 bp pulse electric vehicle charging points are expected to be installed here in 2021.
