The A23 has a number of small services, but this is probably the largest offer on the road.
Trivia and History
The Hickstead junction on the A23 used to offer easy access to The Castle Hotel and a 1920s garage, which in the 1970s became a full petrol station accompanied by a branch of Little Chef. There was a plan to add a hotel here but it didn't happen.
In 1993 that garage and Little Chef had to be demolished to make way for the upgraded A23. In response, Forte built a new, much larger service area in the opposite corner of the new junction. The restaurant had a coffee shop which became a Burger King. It closed in 2017 as part of Euro Garages' shutdown of the brand.
The petrol station is sometimes known as Ricebridge. As is common for most Forte-developed services, it is branded Shell.
