Trivia:

The services originally sat on the A34 southbound with a link back to the Chieveley Roundabout, so there was a lot of confusion as to whether the services were originally aimed at M4 traffic or not. Certainly, not too long ago the services weren't signed from the M4 because it wasn't deemed necessary and there were fears that the junction wouldn't cope with the extra traffic, much like Markfield.

In 2004 much-needed improvement works came to Chieveley, which involved directing the A34 away from the roundabout. The works gave Chieveley a new entrance, and because the roundabout no longer had A34 traffic to deal with it was decided that there is enough capacity for the services to be signed from the M4. The old loop road isn't needed any more but it is still there for works traffic. Unfortunately, Moto didn't make a big effort when it comes to updating Chieveley, and there's still arrows pointing to bushes and signs suggesting that the services are only for the A34.

There is a Hilton Hotel opposite the services, but it's not part of the Moto site.

This signage was restored last time I looked. When I've passed, there has always been signage of some sort indicating the existence of Chieveley services, though for most of its history this has been a non-standard one referring to 'Services Chieveley A34'. The Department of Transport and subsequently the Highways Agency were long hostile to the site, which Granada had built without going through the usual procedures for an MSA.

A great MSA, and now a lot easier to access.
