RoadChef's half of the split services, for southbound traffic. The services are a lot more modern than their northbound counterpart, and they're bigger too.

The only physical connection between the two services is a two-mile route for authorised use only (emergency services, staff and deliveries), everyone else has to head up the motorway and turn round at the next junction.

Trivia:

Sedgemoor was originally the Brent Knoll Rest Area, which opened with the rest of the M5 and was ran by the people who ran the M5 at the time, the Department for Transport. However, it quickly became a crime hotspot so the DfT encouraged Welcome Break (the owners of the next services north, Gordano) to take over the northbound rest area and RoadChef (the owners of the next services south at the time, Taunton Deane) to take over the southbound services. Over time both operators expanded their sites and now we're left with a full service area.

Chester is the only other service area to have been developed this way. Today, the idea of rest areas is being strongly considered and they may well become a common sight on the motorway.

As an aside, the services are within a close proximity to the Brent Knoll Hill, which is why you can tell you're approaching the services long before you see signs for them.

The road off the M5 leading into the services is awkward and you get to the entrance before you know it, even if you've slowed down. Definitely take it easy on the way in, and out. On the way out of the car park, watch out as you proceed along the exit road back onto the M5, HGVs dart straight out of the petrol station without even bothering to look to their right to see if anything's coming. The cafeteria is like the ones on most British motorway services, mediocre fare at best and vastly overpriced for what you actually get. If you're coming down from the north of Bristol, get off the M5 and stop at Cribbs Causeway, go to Marks and Sparks and buy some sandwiches, snacks and drinks there instead. They'll be far cheaper and nicer than the slops they serve up in Sedgemoor's 'cafeteria'.
