Trivia:
Todhills was originally no more than a little service area on the A74 - the remnants of a dangerous and narrow dual carriageway linking the M6 from Birmingham to the M74 to Glasgow. When it was finally announced that the road would be upgraded to become part of the M6, it was originally thought that the services would have to be closed as the new road would be twice as wide as the old one and the services wouldn't meet motorway service area criteria.
Don't you believe it! Instead the sliproads to the services were simply upgraded and, by pure luck more than anything else, Todhills became the M6's last motorway service area - even though it still isn't actually good enough to be one. At least when a similar story happened at Gretna 20 years ago they had the decency to rebuild the services.

Even the Moto site doesn't list them on their map. You have to then go into the restaurants/facilities section and click on Little Chef in order to get a link to Todhills. Plus according to their listing Todhills is only one sided and only has a Little Chef and nothing else. I can promise you that there is so much more to Todhills than that,so for those who want to know more here you go.
Todhills northbound was orginally the furthest north Happy Eater in Britain and proudly sported its Dinosaur slide to prove it. It then became a Little Chef with a coffee stop, then a Little Chef with a burger king and then a Little Chef on its own again, and most recently - well about a year ago when I was last there - there was a small coffee bar inside too where the BK used to be. There has always been a Shell fuel forecourt too.
In about 2000, Todhills southbound was established. The hotel on the opposite side of the road was closed down, and demolished and replaced by a Little Chef and Travelodge which both still exist today, along with a BP fuel forecourt that has been there since the days of the hotel.
It was thought when the A74, upon which both services are located, was upgraded to motorway that both services would be flattened or closed as they would not meet motorway standards, plus they are within 10 miles of Gretna to the north. However, the curious soul that I am, I e-mailed the Highways Agency who informed me that they were to continue to stay open. But as what?
Both Todhills services were retained by Moto when Little Chef was sold off by its parent company, and the Little Chefs were then operated by Moto as a franchise. However, with Moto's current plan to rip Little Chefs out of all of its services and replace them with Cafe Ritazza, Costa, M and S Simply Food or any combination of the above, anything could happen to Todhills! Last time I drove past in April 2008 the large roadside Little Chef signs were gone from each side which could suggest that change is coming. Who knows?
For the time being though anyway they are Little Chefs and look set to stay open!
